August 31 Holiday weekendI am so exhausted. It's already been a long week and the craziness doesn't officially start until tonight. That's when the we are doing the software application go-live. I hope everything goes smoothly and I think thousands of other employees are hoping the exact same thing. I'm so excited to head out to the fair on Saturday but I think it's supposed to rain, well at least according to those weather forecasters it is. I hope they are wrong!! Looking forward to Jan's bridal shower and engagement party as well. It'll be fun to go on the Mississippi riverboat cruise. Never done that before. Wish Bryan could come with me, but he's really looking forward to his long weekend. Okay, time to just relaxxxx and do absolutely NOTHING. Yay- tomorrow is Friday. Have a great holiday weekend everyone! August 29 Yay Brit!Congratulations to Britani, who just got a new job today. Yay!! I'm so excited for her.
Had so much fun at the fair that I've decided to go again this weekend! Looking forward to it and I hope the weather will be nice.
Took Bryan into Urgent Care after work today. August 27 Kim's wedding picturesPainting the shedAfter relaxing for a little while after the fair, Bryan and I primed the shed. We are painting the same color as the siding on our house, to match. Bryan is also working on widening the door so he can drive the lawn mower inside. That way, we can both park in the garage again. Just in time for winter. I'm not the best painter in the world, but I don't think that I'm that bad! It's kind of back-breaking work. Hate the mess and standing in the gross part of the backyard by the weeds and really dislike the bugs eating me. The shed will look nice once we are done with it. Bryan is taping it right now and we are going to paint after we are done with pizza and movie this afternoon. Rented V for Vendetta. Hope it's good, or at least halfway decent! Dang, it's Sunday, which means that tomorrow is Monday. Back to work once again. Can't believe that next weekend is already Labor Day weekend. It'll be fun to go to Jan's bridal shower and her engagement party on the Mississippi river boat cruise. Hope that this fall and winter is mild. August 26 Weekends are blissfulJust got back from the GREAT Minnesota get-together aka the Minnesota State Fair. Had a wonderful time! We woke up pretty early and drove over to the State Fair express bus stop near our house and got to the fair at about 9AM. The weather was nice, cool and just a bit cloudy when we got there. As the day went by, it got warmer and sunny. We ate cheese curds, Sweet Martha's cookies (YUM!!) and Bryan had a slice of pizza. Looked through all of the exhibits, including the new miracle of birth center, which was very educational. Saw baby piglets, lambs and calves. VERY CUTE!! Also saw the gorgeous Budweiser clydesdales. They are definitely the most beautiful of all horses. The famous donkey from the TV commercials was there too, in a smaller stall next to the clydesdales. Even the Budweiser dalmation and hanging around. Enjoyed checking out the TV and radio stations that have booths set up around the fair. Left the State Fair and got back to the bus stop at about 3PM. Did a lot of walking (and some eating). Brought Zoe back a treat on a stick. She's enjoying that right now.
Last night, we went to the Vikings game with Adam and his friend. That was also a good time. The Vikes won again the Ravens, 30 to 7. The seats were the same as in the years past, 8 rows up from the field at about the 20 yard line. Perfect view of the field and right in front of the cheerleaders.

Hard to be impressed after going over to Abbott Northwestern so often. Sat in horrible traffic for an hour to get home. The traffic lights were out of order and it was backed up for miles and miles. How frustrating! I'm glad to be home. Wish that I was able to take the bus or light rail to work. Would be so convenient!

Glad someone took photos, because I didn't even take a single one! Tomorrow is FRIDAY. Yay!! Go Vikings! And yay for great weather at the State Fair on Saturday! August 23 Brain drainDum diddly dum diddly dum. I can't wait for the Vikings game! Can't wait for the State Fair! Can't wait to just not use my brain and relaxxxxx. My Mpls St. Paul magazine came in the mail today, along with a nice shopping special edition. Can't wait to read it. It thunderstormed last night and Zoe was pretty frightened. She kept walking around the bed and finally slept by our heads. Why are dogs so afraid of storms? I'm going to take a tour of Mercy Hospital up in Coon Rapids tomorrow. That should be interesting. I always enjoy looking around hospitals. I'm going to go laze on the couch and do absolutely nothing. Ahhhh. My brain hurts. August 22 VikesYay!! We are going to the Vikings game on Friday. Haven't been to one since last year (duh, considering it's only the beginning of this season). I always enjoy them. So much fun, excitement and noise. Love the seats and view that we have as well. So fun!!
Still busy as ever. Days are flying by. It's absolutely beautiful outside right now. Too bad I'm sitting inside in the air conditioning, watching TV. I can't wait until the season premiere of House. The Minnesota State Fair starts tomorrow. Another fun and exciting event. I love living in Mpls! August 21 Summer is slowing down (oh, no!)Wow. Another super busy day at work. Didn't even have time to take a breath. Was starving when I got home because I didn't get any breakfast and had just a little frozen dinner for lunch. Can't wait till this week is over and I have time to relax again. Tonight, I'm just going to laze around, read my magazine and watch some mindless tv. Ahhhh. Going to the State Fair this weekend. I always look forward to that. It is just a nice tradition and brings back fun memories. I've always gone with Bryan and we've been there for the past few years. This year, I've decided to get a bucket of cookies to bring home and cheese curds. Don't really need anything else! Fairs are fun! I'm glad we are so close to one of the largest fairs in the country. Now I'm off to stretch out on the couch. August 20 Body WorldsJust came back from a bike ride on the lovely Luce Line trail right by our house. It's amazing. Stretches from our place and goes for 63 miles! I haven't been bike riding for a couple of years now. I really miss it. Bryan inherited his Dad's bike and it's really nice. I have my years old Target bike that isn't the greatest. My butt kind of hurts- the seat is not comfortable at all. It was nice to get the heart rate up and feel a bit active.
Earlier this afternoon, we went for lunch at Cosetta's in St. Paul and then checked out the Body Worlds exhibit at the Science Museum. It was a fantastic exhibition- very educational and interesting. I especially enjoyed the embryos at only a few weeks. The tiny 8 week embryo had a head, hands and looked like a thumbprint-sized baby. Amazing how the human body needs to be just perfect to function.
It's almost Monday again- DAMN. Why do weekends fly by so quickly?? I'll have another 8 contractors starting tomorrow. It's pretty tiring getting them all trained in and set up. I'll be relieved when it's all over and the go-live has been successful. Yay!
Just found out that Veronica will be coming to visit at the end of September. She hasn't been over to see our house yet so that will be fun. We'll plan to go to the Renaissance Festival that weekend. Always a good time. Have a turkey leg and a orange sorbet in an orange peel.
Watching the Teen Choice awards right now on TV. Not really sure why I'm watching this. Waiting for Dane Cook to crack a funny joke. Decided that grills are extremely disgusting and that Brooke Hogan (Hulk Hogan's daughter) doesn't have much going for her in terms of entertainment appeal. Funny how she thinks she's a famous music star. Erm yeah, she's famous because she's the daughter of Hulk Hogan. Accept the fact.
Have a good night everyone! August 19 Saturdays rockRan a ton of errands today. Went to the grocery store, dropped off some (expensive) drycleaning, bought some accent decorations from Slumberland, etc. Bryan played in a golf tournament and in the evening we went to check out Chris' new condo. After that, we met up with Jennie's parents at Big Bowl in Edina. Yum. It was a pretty busy day. Wish I had time to sneak in a nap. I'll have to plan on sleeping in tomorrow. Weekends rule!!!! August 18 Stupid drivers make for annoying commutesWow. Seems like there was just a bunch of idoits out driving around today. This morning, there was a higher than average number of people weaving in and out of lanes- very annoying. Coming home, a guy in big truck ran a way stop sign to take my right of way when I was already halfway across the intersection and I stopped and laid my horn on him. ARGH!!! Then he actually looked back at his stop sign. Seriously, does anyone pay any attention at all when they drive?? Guess not. People always run that stop sign because they aren't paying any attention. Freaks. One of those people are going to get someone seriously injured. Okay, just had to rant about stupid drivers. I usually have a pretty good experience commuting.
Work has been so busy that I hardly know whether I'm coming or going. But I think I've got a good group of people and they seem to be pretty set with the training. On Monday, it starts all over again. I need to get some good rest during this weekend! Off to hang out with Zoe D.
Later that evening...
Cleaned the house! I swept the floors, vacuumed the carpets and dusted everything. Bryan is cleaning the bathroom. Phew. It's clean once again. Been a while since we cleaned. Just been way too busy! I love a clean house. Wish I could afford to hire a cleaner to come in every couple of weeks. Wouldn't that be the life! Made baked mac and cheese for dinner- it was pretty good. Off to watch the Libertine. August 17 Busy beeEver feel like you can't even keep track of your own life? Good thing I've got other people who help me out with it! It's been so busy this past week. I'm really glad that tomorrow is Friday. Bryan is playing in a golf tournament on Saturday and on Sunday, we are going to the Science Museum for the Body Worlds exhibit. Should be interesting stuff. Next week, the madness begins again as I bring on another 8 new employees. Crazy. I need to clean the house but really don't feel like it... August 14 Training is my lifeBusy busy busy busy day. Had a large group of contractors start with us today that I've been training in. I love training large classes, vs. just one person at a time. Get more done at once and I like being in front of a crowd. (More people laugh at my jokes). So, all in all, today went pretty well. I have a good group of people. Yay! I hope the rest of the week goes just as well.
Am doing laundry right now. Need to clean the house- bad! Later I'm going to Target to pick up some groceries and other random stuff, including sheets for our new bed. There's a cute aqua/brown comforter set on sale. I think I'll get that. It's beautiful outside. Might take the Zoe dog for a walk a little water, once it cools down. The summer needs to SLOW down a little bit! It's already the middle of August. I wish it could be nice outside like this all year round. But then again, why did I pick Minneapolis, right??
Later that evening...
Okay, it doesn't even feel like summer anymore when I'm watching Monday night football!! I went to Target and bought lots of groceries and blue sheets and a brown comforter for the twin beds in the smaller guest room. Should look pretty nice. I think I might paint the walls too. Not sure what color yet. The curtains in there are a deep purple. Any suggestions? August 13 Kim's WeddingWe left on Thurday after work for Grand Forks and got into town late at night. Apparently, they got the storm of the century right before we arrived. Guess we had just missed it. It was the first time we had been back at the house since we moved out from there earlier this year. I had to go downstairs and take a look at the basement and our old bathroom. Can't believe we lived there for over a year. When I told Zoe "bedtime", she ran down to the basement, just like she used to. Except we were staying upstairs. On Friday, Bryan had a meeting in the morning and I went and got a haircut at Avant. Then we met up with Veronica, Larissa, Diane, Britani and Adam for lunch at the Blue Moose. It was great seeing everyone again and catching up. After lunch, I went and got an oil change at Valvoline- boy are they quick! Very handy and convenient place. A little more expensive than I normally pay but it's just so quick. While the car was getting the oil change, I picked up three Ansel Adams prints from Gordmans for our dining area. Three large black and white prints of Yosemite. I love Ansel Adams. Very classic. I went to visit the Ansel Adams museum when I was in San Francisco with Shaniz a few years back. We had the wedding rehearsal at the church and then the groom's dinner at Sanders downtown. The food was fabulous! I had Wild Alaskan Salmon and mashed potaoes and Bryan had prime rib. It was all followed by a berry tiramisu. YUMMY! The wedding was on Saturday afternoon and it was very nice. Kim surprised Richie by singing a song. That takes a lot of guts! I know I could never do that. Can't believe that Kim is married now. After the wedding, they had a dessert reception at the church. Lots of cheesecakes, cookies, bars, etc. After that, I went back to the house and took a nap- was exhausted. Later that night, we went over to the Konerza house and had a great dinner of beef tips and toast. Good stuff. The dinner was supposed to be held outdoors, but it started to downpour, so we ate inside instead. On Sunday, we woke up, packed, had some breakfast and hit the road. We stopped in Fargo to visit Bryan's family friend Tim in the hospital. And of course, being that it was Sunday, the traffic back into the Twin Cities was horrible. Stopped at the Albertville outlets and shopped for a little while. Now we are back at home. Home sweet home. I love this place. The drive to Grand Forks is so long and boring! Wish it was closer. Melissa comes to town next weekend. Yay! Have to get the house clean before she comes. We don't have any food, so I have to grocery shop sometime soon as well. Another weekend has gone by so quickly. Every time I have an appointment, it gets canceled because she gets sick, pregnant, etc. ARGH!! 2nd time it's happened to me a couple of weeks now. I'm down to the wire here. My appointment on Friday better not get canceled because I'm not going to Great Clips or Cost Cutters! If anyone has a recommendation for a hairstylist in the northwest metro area, preferably at an Aveda salon, please let me know. I’m working early tomorrow, which means I also get off work early. Yay! Can’t believe that Kim is getting married this weekend. This year has really flown by quickly. Ty, Jess, Jennie and Chris are going to the wedding too. Should be a fun time. I can’t wait to see all the old SEI folks for lunch on Friday. I haven’t been back since we moved, which was 6 months ago. My next two weeks at work are going to be the busiest I’ve ever had. I’ve been prepping for it all week. Got to get everything squared away tomorrow and just wait in anticipation. I hope all the people I’m training are nice and smart.
I just finished reading the book Something Borrowed by Emily Giffin. It took me a while to get into the story, but I really enjoyed it after I got a few chapters into it. The story is not all about happy endings, which I always find refreshing. It’s well written and easy to read. Notice how I now enjoy reading mindless books that allow me to relax? Instead of thinking and contemplating. Do enough of that all day long. When it’s time to relax, it’s time to relax! Well, I’m going to read the next book in line, Something Blue by the same author. Then I’ve got to spend some time packing and getting ready. Have a great day!! August 06 3M ChampionshipToday we met Becki and Jason at Bella for lunch and then we walked over to the Tournament Players Club (TPC) Golf Course for the 3M Championship. My first time at a professional golf event. Interesting stuff. The tournament, not so much the golf.
Then we picked up the trundle bed we bought for the 2nd guest bedroom. It looks great. Bryan is going to put it together tomorrow. I've got to go buy sheets for it now.
What a tiring day! August 04 Friday! Yay!Did a presentation/training class at work today for 16 people. A bit nervous before it started, not sure why since I've done it plenty of times before, but it went quite well, in my opinion at least. No one fell asleep, which is always a good sign! After work, I headed over to Uptown, which is just a few blocks from my office. I met Jennie at the Uptown art fair and we walked around eating kettle corn (yum!) and looking at booths full of beautiful (and some not so beautiful), very expensive art. Too bad it's so expensive to purchase large art. Not that I have some sort of particular facination for large art, but I've got a lot of empty wall space to cover in my house, which is obvious if you take a look at the photos of my house. If I had my pick of art, it would cost thousands to decorate my home.
Again, I'm very excited for the weekend. Don't have anything particularly exciting going on, but I'm always excited to get a couple of days of not going to work and commuting. Especially since now that gas prices are up above three dollars. Happy weekend everybody!
Boy, a lot sure has changed in the past year or so. Bryan and I moved back to the Twin Cities, started new jobs and bought a house. I feel pretty successful for being my age. I am at job that I really enjoy, I work with a great group of people and I love our house. It has history and a sense of personality. It doesn't look like any other house on the block and it was a story, not to mention a really interesting abstract. If you asked me years ago, I never would have predicted that I would own a house in the suburbs with a back yard and a dog. I would have imagined myself living in the heart of the city in a condo up in the skyline. But I'm so happy with our space and the ability we have to entertain and have friends over to BBQ and enjoy the company of. Nor would I have imagined myself finally gaining a corporate career. There was definitely a point in my life where I thought that all I could do was to work up to store manager of some crummy retail establishment. Even with an MBA. But mainly thanks to Gretchen, I was able to secure employment in a field I enjoy (and hopefully excel in). I'm really glad that Bryan enjoys and does well in his job. I see him getting promoted pretty quickly and moving up the corporate ladder. He does make a great supervisor and I'm not just saying that. I've had the opportunity to see him supervise employees. When put in his two weeks notice at SEI, one of his employees actually cried. Before that, they had baked him a cake that said "You're the Best" in icing. How many people can say they've had that done for them?? I married into a great family. I love hanging out with Bryan's aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. and my mom, dad and brother are coming to visit in just a couple of months. I know plenty of people who don't care too much for their in-laws. I can honestly say that I love my in-laws. I have great friends that I love spending time with, hanging out and doing just about anything (Thanks JB, Kim, Ty, etc.) and who make such an effort to come visit me. (Thanks Brit & Mel!) And best of all, my Zoe D Dog. The greatest dog in the whole world. Woof. |
