July 26 Thai food and Incubus both rockThe Incubus concert rocked! It was great finally seeing them perform live, since I've been a fan for quite some time now. Bryan isn't a big fan, but enjoyed the great performance they put on. I appreciated the fact that the concert started right on time, since it was on a weeknight and we had to work the day after. Before the concert, we had dinner at Cosetta's, which is always very good. Had a giant slice of cheese pizza and some refreshing lemon ice. Last night, we went to Sawatdee in Maple Grove with Britani, Veronica and Justin. The food there was also great and it made me very excited to go back to Malaysia to have some authentic hawker food, like nasi lemak, roti canai, mee mamak, prawn mee and I can go on and on. I've also gone along with Jennie and Chris to visit possible reception sites for her wedding. It's been interesting to see what's available in the area. This evening, I'm going to see the Michael Moore movie Sicko with my department co-workers. I've heard good things about it and am looking forward to the show. Okay, got to get ready for work. Thanks for reading! July 19 Quick breatherWow, this week has felt like a month all squished into just a few days. It's been really busy with training at work and extracurricular activities after work. On Monday, after a long day of training, I went to the Wedding Shoppe in St. Paul with Jennie and Lindsay and before that, we went to Cafe Latte for dinner. The salads and dessert that we had was fantastic. After work on Tuesday and Wednesday, I went to the Joann Fabric in Maple Grove for the last part of my sewing class, where I finished making my pajama pants. Talk about a lot of work and money on a simple pair of pants! I have no idea why people sew when it's easier and cheaper to just buy ready made clothing! This evening is the first free time that I've had all week, so I'm looking forward to the weekend. On Saturday, we are going to have dinner on Nicollet Mall and then we have tickets to the Minnesota Symphony Orchestra's Night in the Tropics concert, which is part of their Sommerfest celebration. I've got to clean the house at some point as well and spend some time just doing absolutely nothing and relaxing (which I'm not so good at). Busy busy busy. July 15 Summer daysIs it really Sunday night already? There must be a fast forward whenever the weekend rolls around, because I always seem to be asking myself how the weekend went by so quickly! Corey and Carrie got here on Friday night and stayed at our house over the weekend. We grilled out on Friday night and made s'mores by the bonfire. On Saturday, we had lunch at a drive-in in St Louis Park and then went fishing by our house. In the evening, we met up with Veronica and Justin and drove to the middle of nowhere Wisconsin and had dinner at Vino in the Valley, which was a fantastic find. The wine was excellent and the view was gorgeous. They just opened 6 weeks ago and it looks like the place is very successful. Today, Carrie and I went to a Williams Sonoma cooking class about vegetables and then we all went for lunch July 10 Sew?It's been a busy week already and it's not even Wednesday. Well, that's okay with me, because Corey and Carrie are coming to visit this weekend. Yay! I'm excited to hang out with them again. I miss having them in the Twin Cities. It's been such a busy day, at work and then I went to a sewing class in the evening at Joann's in Maple Grove. I spent three hours learning, selecting fabric, cutting out a pattern, cutting my fabric and practicing on the sewing machine. With the cost of everything involved, it really makes me wonder why people even bother to sew! Seems cheaper to buy clothes already made and not to mention a whole lot easier! I hope that my pajama pants turn out decent. Otherwise, I might just have to go to Victoria's Secret and buy some at their sale.
I'm looking forward to going to the Vino in the Valley vineyard in Maiden Rock, WI this weekend with friends. It looks like a nice place and a fun time. Lots of other things going on this weekend like Paws on Grand and the art fair in Maple Grove. So many things to do, so little time. I love summer! July 08 Mini golfing and wedding dressesThe busy weekend holiday never ends. This afternoon, we met up with Jennie and Chris for lunch at Ruby Tuesday's at the Mall of America. After lunch we played a round of mini golf at the new Moose Mountain Adventure Golf on the 3rd floor of the mall. It just opened today and entry fees went to charity. We had a great time. After that, Jennie and I went to David's Bridal and Jennie tried on wedding dresses. It was great seeing Jennie in the gorgeous dresses and she narrowed down her choices to show her mom when she comes to town. It'll be very exciting to help plan her wedding! July 07 Chicago/MilwaukeeOne our second day in Chicago, we slept in and then went to lunch with Jennie and Chris at the Weber Grill Restaurant. Bryan loved the place and got a kick out of the line-up of grills they have in their open kitchen. The food was great! After that, we headed to the Field Museum and Bryan and I checked out the special Darwin exhibit. Go evolution! Then, we headed back to the Magnificent Mile, did bit of shopping and then went to Gino's East for some very tasty famous Chicago deep dish pizza. We were a bit late and ended up running back to our hotel where we caught a cab to the Ford/Oriental theatre where we saw the musical Wicked. Definitely one of the best musicals/plays I have ever seen! I would recommend it to anyone, even folks who aren't really into plays. The next morning, we all headed to West Egg for a fantastic breakfast and then Bryan and I checked out of our hotel and drove to Milwaukee. In Milwaukee, we took the Miller Brewing Company factory tour and saw Miller Park (where the Milwaukee Brewers baseball team play). After checking into our hotel, we walked to the lake front and checked out the Milwaukee Art Museum. We didn't have too much time to see the exhibits, but walked around in the lobby and watched the sails close outside the building when the museum was closing. Very cool. Summerfest was going on and we walked towards that general area and heard some music and enjoyed the views of Lake Michigan. It was very hot out so we decided to go to the Safe House a little bit earlier than we had planned. Since I wasn't sure on the password to get in, we had to do a cheer before we were allowed in. We spent some time exploring the restaurant and its nooks and crannies. The next morning, on our drive back to the Twin Cities, we stopped in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin and toured the Leinenkugel's factory. What a FUN road trip! Yay for summer July 04 4th of July in ChicagoHappy Independence Day and greetings from Chicago! We had a very long and busy day today. Started out early and dropped Zoe off at the PetSmart PetsHotel in Maple Grove, she seemed very excited to be there. I hope they take good care of her. Then we headed out of town and drove to Chicago (about 6-7 hours). Checked into our very nice luxury hotel (thanks Hotwire for the great deal!) The James, which also happens to have a great location and Kiehl's bath products (yay!). Immediately went to Garrett Popcorn to get the good stuff aka the Chicago Mix of cheese popcorn and caramel corn. It's so so so good and I bought plenty to bring back for friends as well. After that, we walked down to Lake Michigan and I dipped my toe in the water and walked in the sand for a while. It was pretty hot and humid out and we continued on further to Navy Pier. Did the touristy thing there, bought a couple of souvenirs and then continued on back to Michigan Ave. After taking a pit stop at our hotel room, we walked to Millennium Park, then to Grant Park and had dinner at the Taste of Chicago. After Connie's deep dish pizza (took a tip from Veronica), we found a spot on the grass and waited for the fireworks. It was really well choreographed with the music playing and it was an abbreviated show, since Chicago has it's main fireworks display on July 3. Now we are exhausted and and off to bed. Another adventure awaits us tomorrow! July 02 Red WingWe had a great weekend and it was pretty busy, mainly with driving to Red Wing both Saturday and Sunday for Michelle's wedding, reception and brunch. It was nice seeing everyone again and the wedding was beautiful. Congratulations Michelle and Steve!
In other news, congratulations to Jennie and Chris on their recent engagement! We are getting excited to go on our Chicago/Milwaukee road trip. Work has been pretty busy lately and a break is going to be nice. Have a great 4th of July! |
