Hanging out

Picked up my bridesmaids dress from David's Bridal today. Looks great. Kim got to see it for the first time today. She liked it. Good thing too, because she picked it! We went shopping around the Shoppes at Arbor Lakes. Fun times. Found some good deals. Yesterday, we spent a couple of hours at Target. Kim registered for more stuff and we picked up some sparklers. It was a blast lighting them outside in the dark and we did a show for Zoe. Tomorrow, we are going to the Devil Wears Prada and to the Taste of MN.

Called the florist in Bemidji to send flowers to Erik's funeral. How depressing. I keep thinking of him. Life is short. Don't take things for granted. I'm finding out how many people I know who knew him as well. Shaniz called me this morning from Malaysia. Thanks for calling!  Was good to talk to her. It's been a long time. For the first time on the Friday, I wasn't even very excited for the weekend and not to mention, it's even a holiday weekend. Mood is a bit melancholic.

Erik Soderstrom died in a motorcycle accident.  He was a great guy. Always had a smile on his face and living life to the fullest. I know people always say that about people who have died, but this is true. Life goes by too quickly.

Kim is here

Kim arrived last night from DC, a bit delayed, but she's here! Picked her up from the airport. Tonight, we met Jennie, Chris, Ty, Jess and Bryan at the Cheesecake Factory for dinner. After that, we walked around the Southdale Center. We've got lots of things planned for this week. Going to watch the Devil Wears Prada on Saturday and then to the Taste of Minnesota. I love summertime!

Vacuums suck (get it?)

Received Kim's wedding in the invitation in the mail today. It's very nice. Also received one for another wedding this summer that we aren't going to attend. I love getting invitations in the mail. Actually, I like receiving anything in the mail. Bought Zoe a Dingo dog treat (chicken jerky wrapped in rawhide in the shape of a bone) when I was at Target today and I'm watching her devour it. It's amazing how some jerky will motivate a dog to bite through layers of rawhide.

For myself (or rather, the house) I bought a Dirt Devil handheld vacuum cleaner. I tried but could not figure out a good way to vacuum the stairs to the basement. When I used our regular upright vacuum, I'd have to carry the thing down each step as I used the hose to vac. When I used the handheld, I first thought that it didn't pick up too much dirt, but after I emptied it, apparently, it picked up more than the eye could see! Works pretty slick. I should go vac my car out too. But now I'm sneezing from the dust.

Other interesting news. I was reading the Sunday Star Tribune at work today during lunch and saw a huge full page ad that said Aveda was looking for people to test their products. Specifically, hair color (they were looking for Asian hair!) and shampoo and conditioners. So, I called the number and made an appointment. If I get picked, I think they just compensate in free product. Hey! Works for me! And yet another reason why I enjoy living in the Twin Cities- the headquaters for Aveda is just round the corner. (Okay, more like 20 miles worth of corners, up in Blaine).

Kim flies in tomorrow night from Washington DC.  I'm picking her up from the airport. I've gone the guest suite all ready for her and I've put together lots of reading material and things for her to do as well, since both Bryan and I will be at work during the weekdays. The Taste of MN is this weekend. I've got to try to stay away from the greasy fried foods!

Bemidji

Bryan, Zoe and I just got back from a weekend in Bemidji. We left on Friday evening after work. On Satuday I went to Park Rapids for some shopping and lunch. Then I met up with Rhonda, my "family friend" through the program at BSU, at Caribou Coffee. After that, I went to Sue's house, one of my old co-workers from Northern Telesystems. Haven't seen either of them for a long time. That evening, went to Click, the new Adam Sandler movie. I thought it was hilarious. And it had a good moral behind it. Don't rush through life too quickly. Sunday we went to check out the house that Derek is buying. Very nice place, high ceilings, log cabin home. He moves Labor Day weekend. I'm glad to be home!

Baby back ribs

For dinner tonight, Bryan and I made baby back ribs on the grill, cheesy mashed potatoes and corn. YUM! I've been training in a couple of new people at work. Been super busy, I'm so ready for the weekend! Looking to get away. It sounds like something is going on across the street on the lake tonight, I heard music when I was on my way home from work and Bryan saw some sort of jump on the water. We are going to take a walk over there to check things out. Beautiful weather on the longest day of the year. Happy Summer everyone!!

Zoe has short hair

Just picked Zoe up from PetSmart, where they did a fantastic job. She even had her teeth brushed and came home with a red, white and blue bandana that says "Patriotic Pooch" and a collar charm. Cute. Zoe looks and smells great. PetSmart was definitely one of the most affoardable places that I researched. I'd take her back there again.

Received my first issue of Minneapolis St. Paul Magazine, one of Bryan's anniversary gifts for me. It's thick and covers things to do in the suburbs. Interesting.

Looks like Veronica, Britani and Melissa won't be able to make it down to visit this weekend.  Talked to Kim on the phone for over two hours! Spent a lot of time tonight catching up with friends. Always good.

The chess-themed father's day card I sent to my dad never made it.  Oh, that frustrates me!!

Lazy Sunday

Woke up really early this morning from Maverick's barking and whining. Lazed around and then cleaned up the house a bit. Then I went to Archiver's and took a fun class making a tin to keep cards in. It's green and red and made with metal alcohol-based inks. Really easy to make and looks cute. I walked around the Mall of America for a while and bought some clothes. Still have time to kill so I went to Ikea and walked around and looked at all the things I wanted. Hit up Sam's Club and saw some beautiful flowers  I want to show Kim that she could use in her wedding and an EZ Up tent that Jennie could use in her upcoming art fair. Picked up Jennie from the airport-  she had a good time in Seattle. Corey and Carrie came by and picked up Maverick. A nice end to a relaxing weekend. Got another busy week of work up ahead before my friends get here this weekend! This summer is flying by way too fast!

Thunderstorms

Yesterday afternoon, on the way home from work, it started to thunderstorm very heavily. There was also pea-sized hail coming down. The storm did quite a bit of damage in the Twin Cities area. When I got home, I made dinner- Bryan's favorite chicken and mushroom with rice. I also whipped up a batch of peanut butter doggie treats for Zoe and Maverick. They really enjoyed those! Now it's another wet day. Bryan works this morning and we are going to head to the Science Museum this afternoon. Might try to take Zoe into PetSmart to see if they walk in appointments for grooming. She has an appointment on Monday, but her fluff is getting too long.

Later that afternoon...

Yeah, couldn't get Zoe in for a cut anywhere in town. I took Zoe and Mav to PetSmart, Lulu & Luigi and It's a Pet's Life in Plymouth. What a fun place. There were a couple other dogs in there that Zoe were playing with. When Bryan got home, we went to the Stone Arch Festival for the Arts. Had a blast walking around and looking at the booths with Bryan and Zoe. Lots of people came up to us, told us how cute Zoe was and pet her. She was loving the attention. There was also a classic car show going on by the art fair, so Bryan checked out some classic Mustangs. Decided not to go to the Science Museum today, it was too nice out to be inside. Tomorrow, Bryan has to get up at the crack of dawn to go play golf with his buddies. I'm going to clean up the house before they all come over to watch the last day of the US Open, which Bryan is watching right now. I'M SICK OF GOLF ON TV!! Talk about a BORING "sport" to watch! My opinion of course.
6月16日

Travels and more

So in my anger, I wrote a letter to Juut. Still haven't heard back from them, which doesn't make them look any better, in my opinion. I sure have a way of holding a grudge.

Well, on the upside, it's FRIDAY. My favorite weekday, out of all the possible weekdays to choose from. Bryan is working tomorrow and I'm considering going to the Stone Arch art festival in Minneapolis, or maybe to the Science Museum to check out the Body Worlds exhibit. I've emailed Rich to see if he wants to come with me. Bryan is having friends over on Sunday to watch the US Open golf tournament. It's supposed to thunderstorm on and off throughout the weekend, but I hope it doesn't.

Brit and V are coming next weekend! Yay! Again, I've got to clean. Really, I don't know when I'd clean if I didn't expect guests over. I hope Mel comes too. Mel, if you are reading this. COME. I hope lots of pups come along to join in the fun. Zoe is getting her "fluffs cut" (as Bryan refers to it) on Monday. She'll be down to her summer cut by next week. She's getting a bit fluffy, but I think she's cuter that way. Next week is the official start to summer, although in my mind, it's been going on for almost a month now. I hope the weather in October is warm for when my parents come to visit. They have a fear of cold.

JB left for Seattle this morning and I'm picking her up from the airport on Sunday. Becki left for London today too, I think. To go on her study abroad trip. I've been reading up on my cruise book. Not sure how much I'd like being on a ship for 7 days. Seems like there's a lot to do, but I like the freedom is wandering a city. Definitely got to give it a try. Bryan's been on two Carnival cruises and likes them for the most part.

Coming up in less than two months is Kim's wedding! Kim will be coming at the end of this month and staying at our place for a while before heading up to Grand Forks. It'll be a fun wedding.
6月14日

Mav the Min Pin

Yet another beautiful day outside. I'm going to take Zoe to Wayzata Bay for a walk. And another really busy day at work. On Monday I'm getting my first one on one with my supervisor. I've been working there for about 5 months now and still haven't had one yet. I've got three big training presentations to give tomorrow and Friday. I hope they go well! Mav is coming to stay with us tonight until the end of the week. Bryan is picking him up after work.  <- except he looks nothing like that. He's a black min pin. That dog looks more like Zoe.

Later that evening..

Maverick came home with Bryan after work today and I took Mav and Zoe for a walk by the lake. They are getting together pretty well. Zoe is being very protective of her house, her humans and her couch. Suddenly, her treats are of value to her. Only when another dog is interested in them. It'll be fun to have another dog stay with us for the next four nights. Before they got home, I spent some quality time with Zoe. We walked around in Wayzata, I stopped by a jewelry store to get a necklace appraised, we tried to go to Lulu & Luigi, but they were already closed. Dang! Oh well, another time.
6月13日

Exhausted!

Boy am I exhausted! I've been super busy at work lately. Lots of training going on and even more to prepare for. It's not going to slow down until July. We are dog sitting for Corey and Carrie's Min Pin Maverick this week. I wonder how he will get along with Zoe. Apparently, he doesn't really care too much for other dogs. Good thing he likes his kennel. The cable guy is coming over tonight to install a jack in our kitchen. Bryan is going to mount up the tv into the corner. This weekend is Father's Day. I sent my dad a chess inspired card. Can't believe I found one. I really want to take a walk around the lake tonight. I'm sure Zoe would love to join me. Not that the dog has ever turned me down for any opportunity to go outside. PHEW! I need a NAP!
6月12日

Crafts??

Had a very relaxing Sunday yesterday. Took a mid-afternoon nap, watched TV and just lazed around. Perfect! Went shopping for some wedding and bridal showers gifts and got that taken care of for the summer weddings we have coming up. I love shopping for presents, wrapping, finding cards, etc. The weather today outside is absolutely great. It's about 75 degrees out right now. I love it when the temperature is the same outside as it is inside. Had a new hire training class start today. Always have a sore throat after talking all day.

I think I'm going to spend some time tonight going through my scrapbooking stuff and maybe make a couple of cards. Wow, I'm ambitious tonight! I can't wait for Mel, Brit and V to come visit us!! Got to make sure I clean the house and hit up Trader Joe's before they get here. Entertaining using Trader Joe's stuff is so easy. Everything tastes good and is so easy to make. Love that two buck Chuck!

Our big screen TV is slowly dying on us. The Best Buy service guy was here today and said we needed a part replaced. It's getting sent here and he's coming back to install it for us. So for now we have another TV our living room.

Why I don't care for Juut

I am so freakin' pissed off at Juut Salon/Spa. A couple of weeks ago I bought a gift card and made an appointment for Bryan to have a hot stone massage as an anniversary gift. The stupid appointment girl at the counter apparently wasn't capable of differentiating between a regular massage and a hot stone massage, even though I had only mentioned it over and over again and the gift card amount I was purchasing was the exact amount of a hot stone massage plus tax. So Bryan showed up and told the massage therapist that he had never had a hot stone massage before and the therapist said that he wasn't scheduled to have one. But he did say that he could have one if he waited 30 minutes for the prep work to be done. Since we are having company over tonight, Bryan just went ahead and had the regular massage. When he came home and told me this, I was furious! I went to so much trouble to make sure that he was going to experience a hot stone massage and then he was screwed out of one. Seriously. So I called Juut and the only thing they are going to do to compensate me is to send me a gift card for the difference, which is like $10. Whoop-dee-do. Which buys a person about NOTHING at Juut. DAMN IT. And the lady also said that she would give Bryan 20% off his next massage. Like he is ever going to go back there again. AS IF. ARGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!! I hate incompetent people!!!

Booyah

Last night, I went to Jennie's house for her dessert buffet. Bryan, Matt, Jason, Becki, Corey, Carrie, Carter , Rich and Rachel were there. It was too cold outside to go mini golfing so everyone decided to go to X-Men 3. I'm really not a huge fan so I decided to go home. One of my favorite stand-up comedians, Louis CK was on Jay Leno but I fell asleep before I caught his act. He is going to be in Minneapolis and it would be so fun to see him live. I've been a fan for years. Richard drove to our place last night after the movie and it ended up taking him an hour to get here from Eden Prairie. It's normally a 15-20 minute drive. We stayed ate some shrimp (unknowningly), Rich's throat started to close and he downed a couple of highly caffeinated beverages to prevent anything worse from happening. Fun. Then we watched Wedding Crashers and fell asleep. Crazy Adam called me at 1:15am last night. Spent about 10 minutes just laughing to me. If I hadn't been awake, I would have been really angry.

Later that evening...

I just made four berry and cream parfaits. I think they look really cute. I added some sugar to frozen berries- strawberries, blueberries and raspberries. Then I used wine glasses and layered the berries and cream. I had a small sample a little bit earlier and it was pretty tasty. Mmmmmm.

World Cup

The World Cup begins today. So begins about a month of football (or soccer to all you Americans). Go Argentina!!  I'm not really sure how I became a fan of Argentina. It looks like it's going to rain outside. It's been dark and cloudy all day. We have a few people at work where it's their last day, so I might go out for drinks with them after work. I'm exhausted for some reason. Zoe woke up in the middle of the night, peed on the carpet and barked at something outside. No idea what. She has a weird sense of 'intruder alert'. Eventually, I'd love to get wood floors/Pergo throughout the rest of the house. Right now it's 1/2 Pergo 1/2 carpet. I like that Pergo flooring. It's easy to take care of and doesn't scratch very easily. Speaking of which, I need to clean house like a mad.... man. Definitely need to do it before Eric and Denise come over tomorrow. Sent out Kim's bridal shower/bachelorette party invites today. Hope people can make it. I'm planning a fun party! Need to figure out my lunch menu. Was thinking of some sandwiches and desserts... and maybe a salad? Summertime food. Also need to pick up some kebabs from Von Hanson's Meats before tomorrow night. I need a N-A-P.
