May 31 Thursday's thoughtsOkayyyy, there are way too many things going on this weekend to try to do anything, so I’m trying to figure out what I have time for and what I’m going to have to miss. Going to a bridal shower and a baby shower, the Edina Art Fair, Grand Old Day in St Paul, Midtown Global Market’s 1st anniversary with other errands to run in between. Linda is coming to town this weekend and staying through the middle of next week as well. Adam will be moving in soon. Cyndy is coming over for dinner tonight, so I’ve got plenty of reasons to clean the house. The summer is starting with a big bang!
Just an observation: people seem to be inherently either optimistic or pessimistic. Now, I know what you’re thinking “Wow, that’s a pretty obvious statement!” But what I mean is that when I read the blogs of friends, family and other random people, they all seem to have a direction. All in all, the subjects and content tend to be the same, but it’s just the tone in which the message is conveyed that changes with each blog. If one posting comes with a negative air, then the others tend to be as well, even after a period of months and even years. Make sense? So if we are trying to be happy, we will be happy now and continue to be happy later. If we see the glass as half empty, then chances are, we will forever see it that way. People seem to be hard wired and have little tendency to change (in this respect, at least).
Oh, and a great big CONGRATULATIONS to Michelle and Steve on their upcoming wedding and to Amy and Eric & Denise on their upcoming new baby arrivals. Very exciting! May 28 Memorial Day weekend at BemidjiJust got back from a fun weekend in Bemidji. Britani and Adam arrived in the Twin Cities on Friday night and we got to see them for a bit before we headed up to Bemidji on Saturday morning. Stayed at Derek's and did lots of shopping, ate lots of food at his BBQ and played yard games. I found a gorgeous dress to wear to Michelle's wedding and shoes to match. Also bought a few Minnesota/Bemidji souvenirs to bring home to Malaysia. We also home with the fishing boat that used to be at the cabin, so once we get that serviced and cleaned up, we'll be able to take it out on the lake and attempt catching some fish. Zoe had a great time on the trip, mingling with everyone and she was a very good dog through the entire trip. May 23 Crazy stormsToday has been a very exciting day for weather. We received some crazy thunderstorms, complete with hail and high winds. One moment, it was dark outside, then the winds and rain were so strong that it looked white outside. About 10 or 15 minutes later, the sun came out again. Looks like Plymouth received some of the worst damage from the storm, right by Parkers Lake, in fact. Power lines were down, trees were uprooted, crazy! Luckily, our house was left untouched. Good thing, considering the damage only occured about 1/2 a mile away from us.
Received an invite to Michelle's bridal shower in the mail, there are way too many things going on that weekend! Hope that I can make it to everything. Lots of stuff going on this weekend as well. I don't even know where to start!
Tonight is the 2 hour season finale for Lost. Yay, after this, it means that all of the shows that I watch (Grey's Anatomy, The Office, House, Simpsons and Family Guy) are all officially over for the season. I have never been a huge TV fan, but I have to say that there are some great shows on TV these days.
Hope that everyone has a great Memorial Day weekend! May 21 YumI just had a very tasty sandwich from Jimmy John's. Yum. I used to have Jimmy John's more often when we lived in Grand Forks, since at work, we would often work through lunch and Jimmy John's had delivery. Around here, it's not a place that I drive by often, so I never think to go there. But today, I was running errands after work and passed the area where they have a store and started to crave a vegetarian sandwich, so I stopped. Mmm.
Taught a class at work today and it went pretty well. Only four days left until Memorial Day weekend and I hope we have nice weather. It's almost the start of summer as we know it! May 18 Countless daysI just looked through the fridge and freezer and realized that we are so low on food! It's been a while since I've been grocery shopping, so I'll definitely need to go later today. Corey is coming over later this evening to hang out and Carrie won't be here this weekend.
I'm looking forward to hanging out with Veronica tomorrow. We'll be going to the Wayzata Art Experience and to the Shoppes at Arbor Lakes, both outdoor locatons, so I hope we have nice weather. I'm going to Gastof's this evening for happy hour to bid farewell to a former co-worker. I've never been there before, but I've read good reviews about the place.
The season finale of all the prime time TV shows have been on in the past week, signifying the beginning of summer. Well, okay, since I don't have TiVo (yet), I lose my evenings to TV shows. Heh. So this means more free time in the evenings.
Other than that, I've been busy planning our trip back to KL at the end of this year. I'm sure the summer will fly by quickly and we'll be boarding the plane to Malaysia before we even know it. I hope we'll be able to have time to do everything that we want to. I'm also looking forward to going to Bemidji soon, we haven't been there since the holidays last year. Chicago and Milwaukee will also be exciting, it's been a while since I've been there and I want to tour the Miller brewing factory. May 13 David's graduation party/Mother's DayI am so tired! May 11 Going to Malaysia!I'm glad it's Friday! Jennie and I just took Zoe for a walk and then to the driving range. Tomorrow is David's graduation and I've got lots of errands to run before the party. Sunday is Mother's Day and we'll be going out for a brunch with the Hansons and then to All Shook Up at the Orpheum theatre downtown. Can't believe that it's already the middle of May, where does time go? May 09 Summer summer summertimeIt has been pretty nice outside the past few days, except for some thunderstorms here and there. Today is Wednesday and I'm going out for dinner with Carrie tonight. They will be moving back to Sioux Falls soon. DANG! At the end of this week, Jennie and I are going to the driving range. I haven't swung a golf club for a couple of years now, so things might get ugly. Bryan's extended family will be in town this weekend for his cousin's graduation and Mother's Day, so our days will be pretty busy. I wish summer could go on for the rest of the year, but I know that I would never appreciate it the way I do now. And I can say that since I used to live in both LA and Malaysia, experiencing summer pretty much all year round. Things I'm looking forward to: shopping with Veronica next weekend, our first summer BBQ, Memorial Day weekend, going to Chicago and Milwaukee, MN State Fair (I'm strangely obsessed!) and Cirque du Soleil's Kooza. Life is good. May 06 Walk for AnimalsIt's been quite a busy weekend. On Saturday morning, Zoe and I headed out to the Animal Humane Society in Golden Valley for their annual Walk for Animals. After parking in an off-site lot, we stood in the longest line ever (besides those at Disney) and waited for 45 minutes to get on a shuttle bus to the walk itself. We met Jennie and Chris there and together, we completed the 5 mile walk. Zoe did a great job and sniffed lots of other dogs. Bryan was home sick with a sore throat and cold, but it was probably a good thing he didn't come with us, since we got rained out at the end, while we were enjoying our post-walk hot dog and ice-cream. I would be happy with weather like this all year round! I've got my mind busy planning multiple trips right now, between making reservations for Chicago, Milwaukee and Malaysia, coordinating trips to Red Wing and Bemidji, it looks like it is going to be a busy travel year for us. Two big "just for fun" trips for us to Vegas earlier this year and to Chicago and Milwaukee and "I have to go home since it's been almost 6 years" trip to Malaysia. Of course, we'll get to meet Swany and Daniele's new baby boy in KL, so that'll make it even better. I can't believe I let so many years go by without a trip back home, shame on me, I know. It's just hard to come up with a) time off work, b) money (international airline tickets are not cheap!) and c) taking those LONG flights across the world. It'll give Bryan a chance to meet my extended family, since I hang out with his pretty much every week! We'll get to eat some good Malaysian food (best in the world! don't challenege me on this one) and do some shopping. Anyway, enough of that, I've gotta get back to work. Cheerio and go enjoy the weather outside! (if you are currently experiencing nice weather, that is) |
